Arrival Report
Oliver and I had a meeting on WhatsApp at 8.30pm on Friday 9th September. The video call, instead of the previously arranged in person meeting, was due to following government guidelines on not to allow school visits in September. It is hoped that this advisory will be lifted in October.
Oliver arrived very promptly for this meeting and was polite and completely charming. I asked him how he had got on at his host family for his first few days. He told me that the family were very friendly, he’d really enjoyed the home cooked meals and that he was looking forward to going back for the Exeat. When I asked him how his first week at school had been he said he had really enjoyed it and made lots of friends. He told me that the school were very sporty and that he had a sports lesson immediately after our meeting.
I checked that he had handed his passport in to his housemaster for safekeeping and he had.

I explained the structure of Bright World and my role as his ‘Buddy”. I told him about the Bright World handbook on the new mobile app. I stressed the importance of the Student Charter which I advised him to read and always comply with, the rules having been set out by Bright World and agreed on by his parents. I told Oliver about the red button on the app that links to the head office contact details as well as a 24/7 emergency mobile.
Oliver confirmed with me that he will be staying with a host family for his exeat and half-term holidays. I told him that I will call him during his exeat to check that everything is satisfactory. I will also phone him during the half-term break. After that, I told him that my plan is to visit him at school to check that he is happy with everything at his host family. This, of course, is if government guidelines have changed to allow school visits.
I look forward to acting as Bright World Buddy to Oliver and wish him all the best for the year ahead.
